Moroccan Fava Beans

Recipe in Arabic: بيصارة

Bissara is a delicious and healthy Moroccan dish. The recipe is made simply of fava (broad) beans, garlic and olive oil and some spices. This dish is also called: Bisara and is similar to the Moroccan pureed peas. The only difference is that you substitute fava beans with peas. The recipe is very easy to make and should not take a long time to prepare. Simply follow these steps:


Ingedients

  • ½ kg of fava beans
  • 1 bouquet of parsley and cilantro
  • 1 big onion
  • 7 cloves of garlic
  • 1 big tomato
  • 2 tablespoons of olive oil
  • 1 teaspoon of salt
  • 1 teaspoon of red pepper
  • 1 tablespoon of cumin
  • 1 liter of water

Preparation

  1. Wash the fava beans and let it soak for 1 hour
  2. Add the fava beans to a cooking pot on medium heat
  3. Add all the spices and other ingredients
  4. Add water until the fava beans is covered
  5. After 30 minutes take out everything and let it cool
  6. Blend everything and put back in the cooking pot for 10 minutes
  7. Serve in a bowl then decorate olive oil, red pepper and cumin on top

You can slightly change the above ingredients and preparation for Moroccan Fava Beans (Bissara) to match your needs and taste.
